The 1800 square foot garden at Eat Grow Play is getting some renovations this spring/summer. I am planning a tool shed, new raised beds and wood chips to line the foot paths. This coming PA Day we will be constructing a new 4’x4′ raised cedar bed for the garden. Children will learn how to build the layers of bedding for the new garden incorporating leave mulch, newspapers, compost and worm castings. We will also learn to build a worm tube that will supply the raised bed with continuos nutrients throughout the summer.
Since it’s asparagus season we will make the ever popular Cinnamon Rhubarb Muffins for snack. Find the recipe for these muffins here. Children will enjoy a full day of programming including a hot lunch and snacks. Daily mindfulness experiences are important for children’s well being. We will take our midday mindfulness break in the woods. It really helps children reboot and calm themselves. My favourite comments from the children about what they like from doing mindfulness: “It makes me feel calm in my soul.” The mindfulness skills we are learning can be used by your children to help them during periods of stress.
